Mike Cutlip
Managing Director, RAMCO
1. What do you like best about your job?
“Fast paced” is an inadequate way to describe servicing over 160 Realtor® associations with a small staff, and our subscribers have diverse challenges that require us to try new techniques in Microsoft Dynamics and expand what we’re capable of as individuals and as a service provider. I love that I get to collaborate with my truly outstanding team on how to meet the challenges and enjoy the ever-changing environment. We are basically a tech start-up that has hit our stride and achieved great recognition in the field, and no two days are ever the same around here! I also enjoy being able to see the growth among our users, as they really learn how to use the platform and excel, then passing along that knowledge to others. It helps drive the sense of community and reminds our users that we’re all in the same industry, facing the same challenges and we can succeed better when we’re together.
2. What are the biggest professional challenges you face and how does ClickDimensions help you address those challenges?
A major challenge we have is informing our users of the new features in our product and how they can take advantage of the tools to be more efficient when servicing their members. It’s hard to break through the constant barrage of emails and other noise in today’s inboxes, but ClickDimensions gives us the deliverability, metrics and design options to meet our goals. We also are in an industry with rather specialized processes, terminology and business rules, which makes it a challenge for generic email marketing platforms to add more than face value. ClickDimensions’ staff has taken time to understand our world and how our associations operate, adding great value to the partnership and setting them apart from other email solutions. It’s always about that expertise you can bring to the table, not just the toolset you have in your pocket.
3. What was your background before landing in your current role?
I’ve been with RAMCO for a while now, about 11 years. Most of those years have been as the Product Manager leading the development and training aspects. The past two years, I’ve been the managing director and oversee all aspects with the team. Prior to this, I was the IT Director at the Massachusetts Association of Realtors, where I got my start in the Realtor world. It was the MA Association CEO at the time, Rob Authier, who pushed for the RAMCO project at the very beginning and, after a family move took me to North Carolina, I was asked to stay with the project. It’s been a wild decade since then.
4. What is your favorite word, and why?
Onomatopoeia – Not only is it a fun word to say 10 times fast, but onomatopoeic words are just awesome! “Sproing!” “Clang!” “Plop!” Could you imagine a world without a word for the sound of a rubber chicken hitting a linoleum floor? And where would 1960s Batman episodes have been without “Biff!” “Bam!” and “Pow!”?
5. What is your favorite way to spend your free time?
When not spending time with my daughters building Legos, riding bikes to the park or playing video games, I’ll indulge my own nerdy music and science fiction interests. I’ve been a DJ for many years and (at least prior to COVID) hosted a weekly electronic music radio show on Duke University’s station. Keeping up with new music will consume as many hours as you allow, so that gets prioritized behind family and work, and reading helps me relax at the end of the day. I also enjoy reading, with my current favorite authors being Hugh Howey, Cixin Liu and James Corey (who is actually two authors).
